CCR - Question 4

Q4. How did your research inform your products and the way they use or challenge conventions?

Before the Bad Guy project, we had planned to do another song which was Photograph by Ed Sheeran which was of a completely different genre (Folk Music) but we had encountered a lot of issues with our footage due to which we had decided to simply re-shoot our project since we were not happy with the outcome. We had multiple locations for that music video but after the music video, due to COVID-19 restrictions we had to stay home and record the entire music video at home. We had used different places throughout the entire house to control the mise-en-scene of the film. For the mise-en-scene itself we had used a very budget friendly frame. We utilised a black bed sheet as backdrop for our music video and we had used red and blue gel papers on different lights so that we could have the outcome we wanted. Another inconvenience that we had faced was grains. Even though we were using a 50mm prime lens, the shots we’re still coming out grainy and we could not rely on the indoor light bulbs for our music video since there were waves showing up on the frame. We then had decided to completely rely on two of our lights (Red & Blue) so that we could have the desired outcome. We tried to fix the grains of each shot in editing by masking the frame and applying the median to it and colour grading the shots as well.

We had also watched many different music videos to gain inspiration from them and to know how we could carry out the best possible shots we could use for it to convey the message directly to our consumers. Gathering ideas from multiple videos for mise-en-scene as well as camera angles and how we would be able to pull them off and to keep our audience attentive throughout the music video.

As per our social media page, we really wanted the best way possible for us to keep our audience engaged with our product before it was released to again, create hype for our music video and keep our audience excited to watch our video and provide us with their feedback and the best way to do that was to keep the audience in the loop and keeping our instagram page updated. We also used a countdown for when the music video was to be released  so that they would be aware of when it will be posted.
